A Home for the Holidays

Dec 16, 2020

Is there anything better than having the family together for the holidays? The bustle and the wonder and the general festive chaos is a trademark of the season, but it also can be a source of stress for the one hosting. Here are some of our favorite tips for getting your home ready to host!

Focus on the main spaces

No one should be walking through the laundry room with a white glove. Shut that door and don’t worry about it! When you’re tidying and decorating, focus on the places that guests will be spending time, like the front porch, entryway, kitchen, living room, and bathrooms. Hide the clutter in a basket in the closet, and run a quick duster over the mantle. Voila!

Cozy it up

From lighting a fire to setting some candles around the house, it doesn’t take much to add a little bit of coziness! Keep some extra blankets by the couch, fluff the cushions, and make sure there’s room for everyone to sit comfortably. Stick to seasonal scents in your candles to really elevate the holiday spirit, and if you’re not a fan of candles, try a simmer pot!

Prep the guest room

If you have guests staying overnight, be sure to provide plenty of towels, blankets, and pillows. Be sure their room is welcoming and tidy before they arrive. Some people even go so far as to leave a little basket full of favorite snacks, toiletries, and magazines. Any little extra touch goes a long way to making a guest feel welcome and at home!

No matter the occasion, what people are going to remember is how welcome they felt, not what every inch of the house looked like. So whatever you do to prepare, be sure to take a moment to step back and be present!
